CD Reviews

Music that is sure to sooth your soul

(4 out of 5 stars)

"I am a huge Ronnie Laws fan and have been for several years, however, I have to tell you that is was purely by accident that I came across this CD. I was not paying close attention to what I had picked up at all and I have to tell you I am not the least bit upset in having grabbed it. This is truly one of the latest and best hidden treasures out there now. In an age where pop jazz (ala Kenny G, etc.) appears to be all the rave, it is downright refreshing to know that someone is still making true hypnotic and soothing jazz with a little substance to it. Ronnie Laws has indeed established himself over the past few decades as a true pioneer of modern day smooth jazz; however, if there were any doubters and/or haters out there then I would like to take this time to say to them that they have not listened to "Everlasting". Listening to this CD just makes you want to take the long way home from work because it will give you some extra time to enjoy and savor the treat that Ronnie has put down on this CD. The CD establishes itself as a must have within the first four tracks. Ronnie gives you, once again, a fair mixture of all types of musical genres in this CD. You here a little of traditional jazz, a little house flava, and some soothing R&B. Yes this sounds like a questionable hodge podge of flavors, however, I can guarantee you that it makes for one tasteful CD that I guarantee you will not be utilizing the fast forward button on. Also, it is refreshing to know that Ronnie has not in anyway compromised his skill and talent to fall prey to today's commercial entrapments. Ronnie still masterfully displays his prowess as one of today's true and pioneering great saxophone players of the modern time. I have to say, this is a real treat and I would urge everyone to pick it up and give it a try."
