CD ReviewsA tribute, not a cash-in Dino | Scotland | 07/22/2001 (4 out of 5 stars) "With reference to the previous reviewer's opinion of this CD, Ronnie McDowell's sincerity regarding the death of Elvis Presley is beyond doubt. The King Is Gone is not a tasteless exercise in cashing in on Elvis' death - it summed up the feelings of millions of fans in the aftermath of the events of August 1977. McDowell has, and continues to, perform and record with several of Elvis' musicians including Scotty Moore, DJ Fontana and The Jordanaires, which proves his credentials. This CD includes the terrific It's Only Make Believe, in a rock'n'roll tempo and including an almost cameo verse sung by the song's writer, Conway Twitty. McDowell's vast vocal range isn't fully displayed among these songs - his version of Unchained Melody on the album of the same name is faultless - but it's a fun album, with I'm Still Missing You (written by McDowell) the standout track." A great collection! R. Sorrow | Georgia USA | 04/07/2008 (5 out of 5 stars) "I first heard of Ronnie McDowell when he recorded"The King Is Gone",which is included in this collection. His tribute to Elvis was heartfelt & sincere. There are those who think that Ronnie was simply making money off of Elvis-nothing could be further from the truth and as proof,my personal favorite McDowell song,"I Love You,I Love You,I Love You" is included in this collection. It established Ronnie as an artist in his own right. This cd is worth adding to your collection if you are a Ronnie McDowell fan!"
