"Very fascinating CD of Rossini's music for piano. Yes, you do hear traces of the joyfullness of his opera works from the earlier half of the 1800's, but there is also a much darker and dramatic side to these works for piano (Particularly "Deep Sleep"). Besides the music written in Rossini's own hand, there is also the great Liszt transcription of the William Tell Overture, which I have to admit is the REAL reason I bought this CD!
I have to say Frederic Chiu does a brilliant performance, but I'm a little disappointed with the sound of the disc--It should have had a much higher fidelity. But I like it musically."
