"Um sonho a mais" really doesn't "faz mal"!

"I admit it: I bought the CD for one song, Whisky a Go-Go, Roupa Nova's mid-80s dance hit. It was just as good as I remembered, with a great beat and lyrics (what a great blend of English and Portuguese in the line "Te perguntava `Do you wanna dance?'"). As for the rest of the songs, they're all good to great, not a bad one in the bunch. However, I suppose that none of the others are particular standouts either, a least to me. Like so many other things about Roupa Nova, I would have to classify their songs as "inoffensive." When you've got a Portuguese-language remake of a Dan Fogelberg song ("Bem Maior"), you get the idea. But in today's world, it's more of an oddity -- and a compliment -- to be inoffensive.
Note: for those of you who were fans of the mid-90s soap opera "A Viagem," starring the inimitable Antônio Fagundes and Christiane Torloni, the title song is contained on this album as well. The song holds particularly relevant meaning to me now too, besides the fact that I used to watch the soap opera with my then-girlfriend, now wife:
Há tanto tempo que eu deixei você,
Fui chorando de saudade.
Mesmo longe não me conformei. Pode crer...
Eu viajei contra vontade.
