"This isn't my favorite Roy Eldridge recording as a leader but if you like Roy and favor him in a small group setting in the peak years of his career, this disc should be in your collection. From 1960, this gem from the Verve vaults has Roy in a small ensemble setting swingin' on both up-tempo standards and giving his interpretation of a few calssic ballads including Erroll Garner's Misty. He's backed by a rather obscure rhythm section but they hold their own and give Roy lots of room to blow. More quality jazz from one of the most overshadowed trumpeters of the swing era. Highly recommended."
