CD Reviews

Perfect Complement to a perfect movie
J. Jones | Indy | 09/30/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"My all-time favorite romantic-comedy. This soundtrack is slightly dated now, but I still enjoy listening to the tunes, evokes definite memories of the 80's. My only complaint with the soundtrack is the missing saxophone interlude that accompanies the film version of 'Arrested by You;' it makes the soundtrack version seem very vanilla. Also, I would have loved it if they had included Howard Jones' 'Like to Get to Know You Well' (from the car repair scene), but it is what it is. Definitely recommended."
Better Off Elsewhere?
Professor Moriarty | Ashburn, VA | 08/04/2002
(4 out of 5 stars)

"If you're familiar with the movie at all, you may be disappointed to find out that Howard Jones' "Like To Get To Know You Well" is missing, as well as Van Halen's "Everybody Wants Some". Other than these two glaring omissions, it's all here: the end title theme "With One Look" (although it is *not* the same extended version used over the end credits), "Shine" (the music heard when Lane and Monique ski together), and the instrumental track by Rupert Hine during the big K-12 race finale. Other than the missing tracks, I have one other complaint: There is a LOUD and unpleasant hum that can be heard in the background of track 10 ("Race the K-12") which will make you think your CD player is on the fritz. It's not your player. All in all, I was a bit disappointed with this CD. I only gave it four stars because I *really* liked the end credits theme "With One Look" and "Shine". If either of those tracks had been missing, I'd have given this CD one or no stars.(By the way, the recently-released DVD is also something of a disappointment--no extras AT ALL. Not even the theatrical trailers! But that's a gripe for another review... hmmph.)"
"With One Look" error

"This site credits "Cy Curmin" next to "With One Look." That's actually a typo. His name is "Cy CurNin," and the song was written by Rupert Hine (accurately noted on the DVD).As for this CD, I agree with most people here. I own very few DVDs and Better Off Dead is simply one of my favorites. The Howard Jones and Van Halen omissions coupled with poor recordings makes this a disappointing buy. If you see it at a local used record shop, don't hesistate to grab it, it definitely gives you fond memories of the film. But as pure, listening enjoyment, it falls short of the mark. It wasn't until I had taken a couple of the tracks and placed them on my own 80s movie mix that I felt I got my money's worth on this one."
