CD ReviewsThis is deep house MidwestPlains | 05/11/2005 (4 out of 5 stars) "So deep this house is Cold War era subterranean fallout bunker deep. Soulful and soothing. The Rurals are a group of talented musicians in the studio with a habit of laying down a canvas of warm synths and soulful chord progressions using the Fender Rhodes, on which the guitar and alto sax paint a colorful, blissful picture of rural southern England on a hazy summer day. The keyboarding is simple for the most part, but is still groovy and soulful, just not in the disco revival Joe Negro\Michele Chiavarini sense (their stuff is great too). No funky tech-house beats to be found either. Just a straight 4\4 rhythm with Conga accents. Unadulterated jazzy deep house -head bobbing- but laid back. A unique sound. Mary has a beautiful voice with a subtle rhythmic sense like Billie Holiday, but with a velvety smoothness. Cruise to this, day or night. Ironically, the blissfully sunny picture conjured by this album works well on cloudy days to -taking the edge off possible seasonal affective disorders. Up-tempo, but relaxing enough for the chill-out lounge. Within reason, this CD is definitely worth the import money." I am really feeling this combo of Acid Jazz House stuff Joseph Dennis | Atlanta, ga United States | 02/20/2002 (4 out of 5 stars) "This album has the same feeling as Blue Six's Beautiful Tomorrow. It does not have the same deep soul feeling, but it shines on being very laid back and funky. To quote my girl from Sex in the City -- I Likey!!" Classic Deeeep House Joseph Dennis | 02/10/2002 (5 out of 5 stars) "If you are a naked music fan, this CD is a must for your collection. This is some of the finest jazzy house around. You can wake to it go to sleep to it and all those things in between."
