Add to this a wide range of sounds and styles, and you have an album full of both variety and cohesiveness. Favoring a pleasantly round, resonant tone (suggestive of both Kenny Burrell and Pat Metheny), Malone gently swings, rocks, struts, and caresses on a number of original tunes and arrangements. His version of Monk's "Bright Mississippi" finds him and pianist Kenny Barron engaged in a finger-twisting duet. This smooth, hour-long CD showcases Malone's guitar voice and writing style, placing him solidly in the tradition, though, much to his credit, attempting to add something unique and individual to it. --Wally Shoup Similarly Requested CDs

Equally capable at playing ballads, as well as at breakneck speed, this music is a force to be reckoned with. He has the capability of becoming a premier mainstream artist for the 21 st century. Expect more great albums from this artist. It would be interesting to hear him paired with McCoy Tyner or Herbie Hancock for a session." Bright Mississippi also is another great song on the cd. Ron Carter plays nicely. If you want slower songs, another great cd from Ray Brown that features Russell Malone on some songs is Ray Brown's Some Of My Best Friends Are Guitarists. On Heartstrings he goes all out and makes you wonder if he's human. Russell Malone is one of the most consistent guitarists I have ever seen. Live he played even better than on this cd. I recommend this to anyway who likes trio jazz or straight jazz in general. Below is a cd I recommend: 1. But THIS personal effort is nothing short of enchanting and eminently listenable throughout -- over and over again. Especially wonderful is his Song for Darius composed for his son and the tender beautiful things he does with the spiritual Swing Low Sweet Chariot. I have heard in live performances the special things he does with The Blues -- presenting a montage of every aspect of the art form in less than 10 minutes. I only wish he would include Blues on his next CD so I could take them -- him -- home with me."
