Synopsis

Product Description
Alongside the familiar Yoga practice of movement and meditation is the ancient Yoga of Music and Chant whose goal is to open your heart, awaken your mind, and arouse your Spirit.

Sacred Chant to Awaken Your Spirit
Nada Yoga is a 2,000-year-old pathway to higher consciousness, enhanced health and deeper levels of perception, developed in the esoteric spiritual schools of India. Russill Paul left his career as a film musician and took up residence in an Indian monastery where he devoted himself to deeply mastering this powerful art form. On Nada, Russill s remarkable chanting is accompanied by his own ten-stringed hybrid instrument called a Unitar, Bansuri flute, Indian percussion, Sarangi, and Tanpura. Nada can be used for meditation, or to fill up a room with uplifting energy. Chanting along is almost irresistible.

Music and Chant to Awaken Your Heart
3,000 years ago in the Temples of India, yogis chanted sacred Vedic mantras as a practice of meditation, inspiration and spiritual awakening. Russill Paul is a modern master of this practice, having left his career in film music to immerse himself in Monastery life and be initiated into this powerful art. Russill s evocative chanting is supported by an ensemble of traditional Indian and contemporary instrumentation. Listen quietly to go on an inward journey through meditative states, or chant along and be bathed in these healing sonic energies.

Russill presents his work on musical mysticism at retreats and learning centers worldwide. He is the author of The Yoga of Sound: Tapping the Hidden Power of Music and Chant (New World
Library), has shared the stage with many musical luminaries, and has performed for His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

CD Reviews

Grace comes

(5 out of 5 stars)

"As you are reading this, the work of Russill Paul -- through grace -- has found its way into your life. Perhaps, like me, the essence of your being finds expression and connection through music and mantra or maybe this is a new direction for you to explore your deepest self. Russill's CD's are the foundation of my spiritual practice, the ocean upon which my little spirit-boat floats.

Awakening Spirit is primordial: Vibration, the essence of our universe.

Mantra Mysticism kindles strength, stability and courage, even in embracing our human vulnerability. "And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us."

These extraordinary CD's need no endorsement from me or anyone. Simply stated, the light of eternal Truth shines brilliantly through all of Russill's work. It has been placed at your feet. Now it is for you to claim it!"

"Awakening Spirit & Mantra Mysticism By Russill Paul

"The Yoga of Music & Chant"

This is a 2-CD package of the sounds of India and chanting. The instruments have sounds that you may find different, if you are not used to East India music. Each CD is encased in a tri-fold that tells you about the tracks. In my opinion, the Shabda CD is more for chanting and the Nada CD is more for meditating.

CD-Shabda-Mantra Mysticism

The Shabda is used to slow down, energize, and heal. Included are the sarangi, bansuri flute, tanpura, nature sounds, unitary, synthesizer, vocals, and percussion: tables, duffle, mandals, kirtal, clave, chimes, and gunguru.

1) RUDRAM - opening meditation (a chant of protection, invoking Shiva)

2) AUM - the primal shabda (the OM chant, done as "awe--ohhh--mmm")

3) LOKAH SAMASTHA - a chant for wholeness (a healing chant for person/country/world)-- You can chant "Lokah samastha sukhino bhavanthu" right along with the recording. The Indian words are provided in all the tracks so you can chant along and the English translation is also provided in all the tracks so you can appreciate what you are chanting.

4) ASATO MA - a chant to direct your energy (Words are provided. The chant is recommended while walking or while on the treadmill.)

5) VYAHRITI - awakening to the worlds of energy to which we are connected--(Recommended for use with palms on chakras. Words are again provided.) This is one that slightly speeds up as you are chanting.

6) GAYATRI - being illuminated by sacred sound--(This is a popular vedic mantra and a prayer for healing and illumination).

7) KRATO SMARA - the end of sacred knowledge - (This is a chant recommended for a moving meditation where you place your hand on your heart and your other palm up).

8) TAITERREYA - closing meditation

CD-Nada-Awakening Spirit

The Nada is also used to slow down, energize, and heal. This CD has three longer tracks, with suggested "how to" meditate instructions on the tri-fold. The cover explains that Nada Yoga is 2000 years old and is a pathway to higher consciousness. It was developed in the spiritual schools of India. Russill chants while he plays his Unitar and includes the Bansuri flute, Indian percussion, Sarangi, and Tanpura. You can chant with it, meditate, or simply flow with the energy.

1) TWILIGHT MAGIC (17:36)

2) EVENING SHADOWS FALL (23:27)

3) IN THE STILLNESS OF THE NIGHT (22:41)

I recently attended a sound-healing conference at the Edgar Cayce Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Russill taught and performed for the entire day and everyone loved him. Maybe 100 + people chanted all day long, off and on. He would explain what the chants meant and then we would all do them. Sometimes we would meditate; sometimes we would clap along with it. Sometimes it got so lively, some would get up and dance. I enjoyed watching the different reactions to the music. Some people were entirely immersed in it. I found him easy to chant with, even though I do not speak the language, because he provided a slow and clear pronunciation of the words. If you get a chance to hear him in person, do it. The in-person music got much livelier, and of course, you had the experience of the group energy magnification while chanting.
