"I met Ruth Brown in 1955 or 1956 at the Cotton Club in Washington DC. I was a new dancer without a clue about dancing, just the wonderful opportunity it gave me to expand in the arts. Ruth told me I could only do what I thought I could do to fulfill my dreams. Over the years I lost track of her until about 1990 when I discovered her at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood. I didn't have the fare to get in but felt better about knowing Ms Brown still sang my favorite--"Mamma he treats your daughter mean". What a legacy she left. Beverly Hurt"
