CD ReviewsOld Time Country Stanley R. Freedman | 09/22/2006 (5 out of 5 stars) "This album is fantastic. I heard Ruthie and her Wrangers on NPR several weeks ago and decided to try this album. There style reminds me very much of the classic country artists. You can't go wrong with this album, even if your not a classic country fan. Buy it!!" Keep My Candle Burning Bright Lee Armstrong | Winterville, NC United States | 05/25/2009 (4 out of 5 stars) "Ruthie & the Wranglers' CD titled "Someday" is a good country set. While not groundbreaking, it's an acoustic accented set that glances back to days when Patsy Cline was high in the charts. "New Love" opens the set and bounces joyfully with Ruthie's lyrics zooming out faster than a gunshot, "Some might say I'm a hypocrite, but that sounds simple, but that ain't it; I'm only doing what you did, I'm looking for a new love." "Someday" boasts a classic country melody before the tempo gets a jolt liked someone suddenly turned on the electricity. Perhaps my favorite track is the country surf music instrumental "Revenge of Surftillicus" where Dick Dale meets Lynn Anderson. "Tell 'Em What They Oughta" bounces like a tavern on Tuesday night with Ruthie singing to the gals about how they got to train their men. Wrangler Greg Hardin sings lead on the weeper "It's Blue" that he penned. Ruthie wails mournfully on "If a Heart Breaks," "If a heart breaks in the night and nobody hears it, If someone falls to pieces down the hall, If a world is tumbling down and nobody knows it, do you believe it's happening at all?" "Dirty Secret" is an excellent track with Ruthie's soft aching vocals, "At least I have something tonight to keep his memory alive, to keep my candle burning bright till I get tired and close my eyes." The CD concludes with a deep smoking lounge blues instrumental "Catwalk" that is another of my favorites. "Someday" is a great set, firmly rooted country that is affecting, performed with panache. Enjoy!"
