"Red Nichols is one of the musicians of the jazz age who gets frequently overlooked, but in Dixieland there were "Louie, Bix, and Red". Most of the great swing musicians of note got their starts in his orchestras and bands, and this CD features the band that helped him make a revival. The selection of tunes is flawless with classics from the ODJB: "At the Jazz Band Ball","Sensation", and "Lazy Daddy", as well Kid Ory's most popular composition, "Muskrat Ramble". The CD displays how he often made recordings of popular songs, and the only disappointment was the very slow and shortened version of "When the Saints Go Marchin' In", which is far from Red's usual creative arrangements. A must for jazz lovers!"
