The extraordinary pianist Sal Mosca was renowned for his outstanding talent in improvisation and single minded approach to his metier. A life long resident of Mount Vernon, N.Y. Sal grew up while listening to Fats Waller, Teddy Wilson and Art Tatum, assimilating aspects of all and also eventually Tristano in his playing. After engagements with Lee Konitz, Warne Marsh and others Sal eschewed the commercial world and concentrated on teaching and self development at his home/studio. This rare 1979 date was taped at Sal Mosca's home studio and is regarded as arguably his most brilliant solo recording.
