CD Reviews

Britains most underrated band

"Find belle and sebastion a little to fey for your pallate? Love the super fury animals, but wish at times they would strip away the sonic playfulness to reveal a little more of what they are thinking? Enjoy the wayward psychedelia of Syd Barrett but wish that he'd written a few more y'know...tunes, stuff you could sing along to? Well fear not you are just about to hear Salako, possibly for the first time and all your prayers have just been answered."
Mellow Yellow

"The second album of the English band, which contains 17 songs of raw enthusiasm, surrounded with very clear, acoustic pop melodies. Musically, they are in a fine line between Belle & Sebastian and Gomez. This is not a 5 star album but my conscience wouldn't let me give it 4. Out of 17, I only couldn't get used to 2 of these songs, but the major beauty of the album is that it passes like water, without the errors effecting the ambience of the album. The melodies will remind you of the fast, happy summer days. Timeless stuff... An unimportant info: The band's name Salako means "idiot" in Turkish..."
Don't tell belle and sebastian

"That is, don't tell Belle & Sebastian that I might favour Salako a bit more. This album is so great I can not believe it. At first Salako sounded a bit odd to my ear, but a few listens and this album could be one of your favourites like it is mine. It is full of good, clean, "Sunday morning" (as they say) gentle guitar sounds, but do not mistake this for 'weak'. It is anything but. "Bedtime Astronomy", "Waiting and Thinking", and "The Bird and the Bag" will most likely grab your attention at first. "Do it Yourself" is one of the lovliest songs ever written. Ooooo la la, Salako."
