An enjoyable CD

"I have many cds of broadway vocalists from Jay Records (Caroline O' Connor, Susan Egan), and most of these recordings are good. The recording company did another very good recording of an interesting collection of broadway and jazz songs. I am not really familiar with Sally Ann Triplett. This is her first CD of hers that I heard. Initially, the come-one for me are the cole porter songs in the CD (Anything Goes and I Get a Kick out of you). I am not disappointed, in fact, i discovered other good versions of broadway songs on the cd.
Her version of Get Happy is very sexy. Though, the arrangement is not the same with the Judy Garland arrangement, the sparse jazz treatment worked very well. The same is true with the other quinted numbers on the CD (e.g, the surrey with the fringe on top, down with love). I am also glad that this is not another "recital" cd where the collections are composed of "awesome diva" songs. The collection is quite good.
It has the typical calling-card songs (Lorna's Here, Dont Rain on My parade, Memory, Maybe this time) going with quiet gems (Down With Love, Someone to watch over me). Another interesting song is Freddie Mercury's "Somebody to Love".
The CD obviously captures the nuances of the singer. Also, it stresses that Sally ann triplett is not only a singer, but a good actress as well. Her rendition, for instance, of Memory showcases a different character and vocal quality compared with other songs (Anything goes). Each song becomes distinct.
This CD is definitely a good buy. She is definitely not a mimic singer. She stamps her own brand of acting and singing style on the songs."
