CD Reviews

Excellent listen

"Super nice album, very easy to get into and listen to, and this is a direct testimony to excellent songwriting. This is the type album that blows away anything else on what could be considered the mainstream radio.

For instance, the song "oh maria" would most likely appeal the fans of the most poppy songs going, to say the "Maroon 5" crowd, but it is a super sweet indie rock song and its a real shame that there are albums this great that people will probably never hear.

So if you read this, rest assured that I hate albums that are filled with fillers and drivel, and that this album is a solid purchase. Just be warned, you will be sing "Lions of the kalahari" all the time."
This is a great album

"As of this writing, there are three reviews on this terrific CD, and that bums me out. I wish there were hundreds of reviews, because this piece of work deserves to sell! Sell! Sell!.

I'm not on the band's payroll, and I never knew of Sam Roberts until I heard Detroit 97 on the radio, which was enough to get me to the store to buy the CD. As it turns out, that's now my least favorite song on the album, which will--as of June anyway--go down as my favorite new CD of the year. Sure, the songs are a bit derivative, but they steal from my favorite influences, Mick Taylor-Stones, Dylan, Crowded House, the Beatles, Death Cab for Cutie, and in the end, who cares if they're derivative or not? All music builds on itself. This music is so fresh, and smart, the vocals excellent, the songs are perfectly constructed, they breathe, they rock..and they were made by a real band, not some studio construction. The drums, the guitars..it sounds live, even though the vocal harmonies reveal plenty of overdubbing.

When so much of the music I hear on the radio today is absolutely pathetic, this is a breath of fresh air..I wonder why it isn't getting more airplay here in this country, from what I understand it debuted at #1 in Canada, which is where these guy's come from.

Anyway, great CD...I love it."
