CD ReviewsOriginal Surf Rock Keegan R. Lerch | Bethlehem, PA | 06/11/2009 (4 out of 5 stars) "This is the soundtrack to Bruce Brown's film "The Endless Summer." The Sandals were the first true surf-rock group to score a major surf film, and they defined the genre. The Sandals are made up of Gaston Georis (piano, organ, clavietta), John Blakeley (lead guitar), Walter Georis (rhythm guitar), John Gibson (bass guitar), and Danny Brawner (drums).
Most of the material on this album is written by group members (specifically W. Georis and J. Blakeley). The original soundtrack LP runs just over 26 minutes, which doesn't fit too well into the CD era, and this album has been re-recorded by the Georis brothers, who formed the tri-surf label after the Sandals disbanded, and they still have a [...], where you can find all of their albums. This is some of the most laid-back, relaxing music imaginable, and perfectly portrays the movie and it's surfing theme. The music is simple, makes you tap your toes, and...of course, makes it feel like summer! Pick up a copy of the soundtrack on vinyl if you can find it, it'll be cheaper, if you want an introduction to the band, there are some less expensive copies (that aren't imports) and you can also find this music (greatly expanded) on a greatest hits of the Sandals. Happy Listening....Surf's Up!" |
