This has got to be one of the best recordings of acoustic drums, ever!Sandy Nelson was the only rock drummer who used to put out drum solo albums in the early sixties. Max Weinberg and others attribute to Sandy Nelson as being a major influence. Many of you are too young to know about Sandy Nelson. But, if you ever want to hear one of the most straight foward acoustic drum sounds ever recorded, get this CD.I read a mini biography on Nelson. He said in the early years of his career they used to give him free reign in the studio and recorded his drums straight through. Probably, the only recording effect used was echo at times. His drums had to be one of the most beautifully tuned sets I have ever heard recorded in over thirty years... He also started certain trends in Rock Music. No one was playing extended rock solos on record until he came along. Few would even try after him... If you never heard of him, and want to hear the roots of Rock drumming, this CD will amaze some of you... Some of it is a cross over from big band swing jazz with a rock sound, and the rest is what was heavy Rock for the early sixties."
