CD Reviews

Super Santana
Michael Kerner | Brooklyn, New York U.S.A. | 02/16/2010
(4 out of 5 stars)

"It has been nearly a decade since Santana made one of the most dynamic and acclaimed comebacks in music history. While there have been so many acts that've acheived success from the 90's Latin Pop explosion, none of them shined brighter than Santana, and the highly-acclaimed Supernatural, which won 9 Grammys, and became the most-awarded album in Grammy history. For Carlos Santana, he would tie the record held by the late Michael Jackson for the most Grammys earned in one year with the record with 8, and make his way into history. Now, 10 years after making history, Santana's biggest-selling record has a new edition for anyone whom never experienced the need to be smooth.

The 2010 re-release of Santana's Supernatural in Santana: Legacy Edition, is a great and storng reflection of what made Santana so strong musically and soulfully. The record still remains a classic to enjoy today, as each and every song brings out the striking appeal of the virtuoso guitarist, and his band known for that Black Magic Woman. The songs have all been remastered wll and include all of the classic collaborations and rifts including the #1 smashes Smooth with Rob Thomas of Matchbox 20 fame then, as well as Maria Maria with Wyclef Jean and The Product G&B. There are a few new unreleased songs that fit the bill well on the album too including Rain Down On Me With Dave Matthews and the soulful Angel Love. There are a few tracks that aren't worth enjoying like the remix of Maria Maria, which doesn't feel as organic as the original, and Olympic Festival. But there are few and far between tracks that are not worth bothering with here.

Overall, despite a couple of flaws, the Supernatural: Legacy Edition is still a record worth listening too, if you're a hard core fan of Santana. If you've honestly never owned a copy of Carlos Santana's masterpiece when it originally came out, it really is worth checking out the second time around. I loved the record when it originally came out, and it still sounds great today to feel so smooth.

Second disk is off the charts!

"Literally and figuratively. Purchase this special edition for the remastered first disk, but also for the amazing second, unreleased tracks. This album holds up incredibly well after ten years, something that cannot be said for too many CDs of the early 2000s. Very pleased with this purchase."

"Not really into the the remixes, etc, on the second CD (don't have anything against them, though...).

I play the tracks (on the 2nd. CD) in this order: 3,10,11,2,1,5,6,7.

I agree that these tracks are worth the money."
