"It is a myth that, during the cold war, Warsaw Pact countries were devoid of western influence, particularly, rock and roll. Current record collectors like Andy Votel are unearthing loads of great iron curtian rock, and you can't do much better than Sarolta Zalantay.



This music features, in spades, all you'd expect from 70s hard rock: cowbells, heavy wha whas, fuzz bass, and a lead singer who's voice just won't quit. Zalantney's singing is as powerful as Janis Joplin's, and blows 70s knock off bands like Heart right out of the water. If anything, the heavy rock features here are exagerated, like an easterns view of what western rock sounded like.



Through the album, Sarolta sings in her own launguge: this is always a plus and something music fans don't get to hear enough. Most rockers try to make it big in America, and so sing in English, so we Anglo-centric, Britney-sniffing gringos miss out on a great thing: When you don't understand the words, the voice becomes another sound, that you can appreciate like a saxaphone or a guitar. Here, the music is so loud and dynamic--the fuzz bass adds a lot to this-that her singing becomes an amazing spice is this sound blender.



There are a few ballads that slightly slow this album down, but even these are quality pieces. The playing is also fantastic throughout.

Rock-diva behind Iron Curtain

"Needless to say that (strange enough) but since the 60s there was a well developed rock- pop-community in Eastern bloc countries, with their own rock-icons, and excellent musicians. Most of them are almost unknown in the West, especially those from the past.

Sarolta Zalatnay was a real rock queen from Hungary, who drifted from early pop-tunes to pretty heavy psychodelia. She had an extremely powerful voice and could easily outshine better known Cilla and Lulu with their silly voices and petty music-hall repertoire.

This is an excellent compilation - 16 tracks plus 3 bonus (in English), recorded with the monsters of Hungarian rock - "Locomotiv GT", "Omega", "Scorpio", "Metro" - each of them is an institution on its own(10,000 LepesGammapolisL.G.T. - Locomotiv GTRingsad el magad - Locomotiv GT(CD)Locomotiv Gt - 1971Csokolj Homlokon.

If you are open-minded and willing to learn, you'll discover the whole new planet of world-class music.

It might sound a bit out of time, so this CD is for 70s fan. I wouldn't recommend it for everyone - listen first. But it's a real value for money
