Amazon.comAs rock and electronica meet and mingle, there are bound to be some interesting hybrids. Satisfact manage with great elegance to combine the cerebral sultriness of digital music with the manic throb of a rock song. Frontman Matt Steinke is an analog/digital pioneer whose other band, Octant, features a robot drummer of his own design and construction. Under his guidance, Satisfact achieve a complex guitar-and-keyboard sound that meshes naturally with the locked-in bass and sharp, loud drumming. The hidden frequencies of "Vortex" hit your ears like acupuncture needles. "Locate" uses a Gang of Four-like automated groove to give some postpunk archness to this tale of a man "losing voltage." Unlike another digital genre bender, Atari Teenage Riot, Satisfact have more passionate impulses in their sci-fi sound. They are a new breed of rockers: eggheadbangers. --Lois Maffeo
