CD ReviewsThis CD rocks! 12/17/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "If you're looking for a good Christian rock CD get this one! You'll be up on your feet dancing to most of them! Shout: 8/10 Love it! The Solid Rock: 8/10 This one's pretty good, too, but it isn't one of my top three. Magnify: 9/10 Definitely one of the best songs on the entire CD! Save the Humans: 10000000/10 No wonder this one was the title! It's number 1 on my favourites list! You'll be listening to this over and over again! Taboo: 9/10 This song is awesome! Number two on my favs! Into your arms again: 8/10 Don't like it as much as the others, but it's really good! American Idle: American Idle is the "next big thing"! Way to go, Ian! Throw it away: 7/10 This song rocks. You'll love it! Amplified: 10/10 Awesome song once again! I love to tell the story: 9/10 I love to tell how good this is! I highly recommend this to everyone! I'll never stop listening to this one! What are you doing just sitting there? Go buy Ian Esklein's "Save the Humans" today!" Great gospel-rock Pieter | Johannesburg | 03/17/2005 (4 out of 5 stars) "Eskelin has a clear and appealing voice, a sense of humour and memorable songs like the title track, Magnify, Save, Taboo and Amplified. His mostly pop-rock sound also encompasses soulful gospel and even metal. The themes include problems like alienation, arrogance, vanity, denial and animosity against Christians, but Eskelin addresses all of these with wry humour and charming wit. A strong feel of empathy comes through in his music. The lyrics are never preachy, often playful and always entertaining, and they are set to strong tunes. His satire of reality TV in the song American Idle is quite cogent and amusing. My top favorite is Taboo, a more subversive number with impressive rhythms and poetic rhymes. I am not really familiar with gospel rock but Eskelin's music is right up there with the very best of intelligent rock and pop. A similar inspiring album is Where Do We Go From Here? by Pillar. For a more devotional and mystical approach, I recommend the album The Sacred Names by the Hawaiian singer Anjani Thomas.
