This live recording by Schmidt-Isserstedt is one of the most deeply moving performances of Das Lied I ever heard, with rapt and soulful singing by Merriman, and most compelling and eloquent tenor by Wunderlich, accompanied by warmly expressive and intimate orchestra playing. Der Abschied has real sense of awe and poignant finality. Relatively well recorded. It may well match the classic account by Walter/Ferrier."
