Schubert would like it....

"Due to our bourgeois ancestors we still enjoy home made chamber music at the rare family gatherings. The Schubert sonatinas are part of the standard menu. The recording above is smoth and clean, just like we love them. I'd say better then the glistening perfect performances with Stern and Barenboim...."
SCHUBERT AND HOELSCHER

"I always regretted that Schubert did not write a Violin Concerto. Recently I came on an old editorial in the NY Times (8/26/2001) from one Henny Bordwin declaring that not only did Schubert write one, but that on Oct. 7, 2001 his Violin Concerto in D major (D.345) would be performed by the Boston Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra. Yet even at this late date I can't find a recording of the piece. Does anybody know about it? If so, please write a review of your own and tell us. Also get hold of a major record label and tell them to get on the ball.
In the mean time we have this fine album of 2 CD's featuring the great Ulf Hoelscher and Karl Engel. I won't critique the compositions--they are Schubert after all--but the performances are first rate. Essential for the Schubert fan."
