Sounds better on a Bosendorfer

"Probably the greatest recording of Schubert's sonanta in A (D 959) that I've heard is Badura-Skoda's performance on a modern Bosendorfer piano. My LP version is practically worn out, and I haven't been able to find it on CD, so I gave this one a try, even though I knew it was a period instrument performance. What a difference--and not for the better! While period instruments seem to be OK for baroque, the piano used in these recordings lose much of the sonic subtlety that is at the heart of Schubert's music. What a shame that Schubert himself never had the opportunity to hear these glorious sonatas performed on a modern Bosendorfer or Steinway!"
