"Schubert's Mass in A-Flat Major is truly a stereo spectacular. The Kyrie is in the sonata format that leads the listener to an expectation that something great is in the offing. That is realized in the Gloria which, from the opening statement, continues to build upon itself to the unrestrained Cum Sancto Spiritu. You, the listener, are filled with the joy of this glorious ending. The Credo returns you to reality somewhat until the ending which again erupts for a masterful crescendo. The Sanctus and Benedictus continue the spectacular in the Hosanna and the Dona nobis pacem of the Agnus Dei is anything but peaceful."
