Moiseiwitsch plays with so much color and personality, supported by effortless technique and peerless musicianship. Schumann is nobility personified, with many interesting, individualistic touches. Second movement is especially intimate. Beauty of tone is always maintained, even in thundering fortissimos. The Grieg is my favorite version of this much-played concerto. Moiseiwitsch's sensitive pianissimos are used with wonderous care. And at the same time, he could rise to thunderous climax of the last movement without ever straining his tone production. Both concerti are beautifully supported by Ackermann.This CD concludes with 3 short pieces, played with exquisite taste."
