CD Reviews

It's a great time to be alive.
Ken | Dallas, TX | 04/21/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"One thing the Scotch Greens proved during their recent tour with Flogging Molly, was that you don't need an album to turn audiences in your favor. In a terrible marketing strategy, these boys headed out on the road opening for Molly without any product to sell. But their energetic live performance, and previous tour with Gogol Bordello & Throw Rag, pushed them past the need to have audience recognition to make a successful show.

"Professional" is a great, if rather short, collection of homegrown, bluegrass punk. Like their tourmates Throw Rag, Gogol Bordello, and Flogging Molly, they are building their reputation on strong live performances, and a unique and creative direction.

You'll likely never hear them on the radio. But songs like "Great Time to Be Alive," "City is Poison," and "Drinkin' by the River" will become fan favorites along the club circuit of the US underground. Full of fans starving for something more than they see on MTV, or hear on their local rock station.

Pick this up. But more importantly, go catch one of their shows. With bands like the Scotch Greens touring, it is indeed a great time to be alive."

"The Scotch Greens just keep getting better. I saw them in Tucson on a tour last year and was very impressed with their unique sound."
