CD ReviewsA Modern Classic Benjamin P. Patterson | Washington, DC | 05/14/2003 (5 out of 5 stars) "Once again, Criss Cross provides the world of jazz with fresh-sounding and interesting music by some of todays most outstanding musicians. If you're not familiar with Scott Colley as a bassist or a song writer/session leader, this is an excellent opportunity to become so. Not only is Colley one of the most in-demand bassists on the scene, but he has shown himself to be a consumate musician, leading sessions and providing excellent original tunes. He has led three trio sides featuring Bill Stewart and Chris Potter that are well worth checking out. To me though SUBLIMINAL,shines out as a special album, possibly because of the inspired addition of pianist Bill Carrothers.Chris Potter fans must have this album. Oh yes.Bill Stewart always sounds wonderful, but in my opion, he seems particularly well matched with the leader of this set. The album title could easily refer to the ease with which these cats groove. This album could definately be one of those sides that musicians are talking about 20 years from now. Keep them coming, Scott. And keep putting them out, Criss Cross."
