I wasn't disapointed for one moment or song for that matter. The Shattering picks up where Men Are Monkeys .. Robots Win left off by exploring the sounds more and more. There was some snyth work in Men Are Monkeys... and its taken to the next step for The Shattering. The soundscape of these songs is amazing ... almost as if you were to play it at the loudest possible volume where you couldn't take it anymore would be the ultimate feeling for this CD.The CD starts out with the title track and sets the tone for the rest of the album. A mechanical intro and then into the bass and guitars. I still just love how the bass and drums work so well together in this band. The trademark sound is still there with Steves unique vocals accenting the songs perfectly. At the moment my fav song is song #2 "Ace of Space" its almost "poppy" if you can say such things about s2r. It has a great groove and I can't get it out of my head. The rest of the songs have the standard s2r feel with the distorted bass and sometimes inaudible vocals. If you like any of their previous works you'll love this one as well. Other songs that stand out are "Or Highwater", "Straigh and Narrow" which is a more mellow tune with a good vibe, and "Mono Fuego" old school s2r gotta love it! Just love this CD its just the right music for the sound I have been craving lately. They sound completely fresh and new to me still. So if your tired of all the new bands that are rehashed versions of past one-hit-wonders give s2r a try for something violently different." The sound gets close to Fudge Tunnel territory at times, which is kinda funny because back in 1993 I didn't think these boys had anything to do with that strain of music. Shows you what I know. There's this insistent throbbing, a constant blistering of the ears that I can't (and don't want to) shake.Easily the band's most solid and wide-ranging album since its outstanding debut (still one of my favorites). Indeed, while stripping away some of the fat the boys have come back 'round to where they started. A song like "Deserve" is the perfect follow up to "Home" from the first disc. And I hear parallels throughout the album. Once again, Season to Risk is playing brilliant music that just doesn't fit in with the times. Hey, I'll listen. Any time." I thought... Ah! Good question... What's the sound of carpet-bombing? What's the sound of fifteen grenades exploding inside your skull? If you were to survive an atomic blast what would the shock wave sound like? I suppose I could compare Season to Risk to a workingman's Nine Inch Nails or Marilyn Manson without the makeup... I thought of System of a Down on acid... But I think System of a Down IS on acid... So that doesn't quite explain it... I saw Season to Risk live at the Hurricane in Kansas City and it all seemed to make sense... Every song is like a giant storm and the short pause between each break is the eye of the storm... You're in a lifeboat and you just made it through the maelstrom and then another terrible roar... Huge locusts are swooping and diving around the raft... There's some kind of machine in the sky that you can't explain... Your hair is standing on end... Your jaw drops and your eyes widen to try and understand it all... More waves are crashing... You check the rigging and pull yourself over to the man selling CDs during the show but they're already sold out... He's yelling, "Please remain calm... I think you can find it on Amazon!" This group has it strapped down tight... Just make sure you bring a life jacket and industrial grade raincoat if you buy this CD..."
