Released in March 1994 exactly a year before Selena would be shot and killed by her ex-fan club president, this CD demonstrates a band at the peak of its creative force. The hits were obvious--the eloquent "Amor Prohibido,... more »" on love conducted in secret, and "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom," a magical pop tune that could work in any dance club. "Cobarde" and "El Chico" were easy cumbias to like; "Fotos y Recuerdos" was an ironic message on having only photographs and memories left. But highly underrated was the lovely and stoic "No Me Queda Mas," on facing the end, yet keeping a sense of dignity and self-worth. --Ramiro Burr« less

"Amor Prohibido is a fantastic album, everybody should listen to it to know how incredible was Selena. All albums released by selena were great, but this one is special because her voice is more beautiful than ever, and we can listen to many styles of music, such as Cumbia, Rock and Mariachi. It`s also good to remember that all musics from Amor Prohibido were very succesful. It`s very difficult to tell what song is the best, because all of them are fantastic, but my favorite one is "No me queda mas",the best Mariachi ballada Selena has ever sung in my opinion, followed by "Si una ves" and "Fotos y recuerdos", songs we can listen to all day long without wanting to stop. yes, the last Selena album before her death is a must and all people who want to know her music should buy it immediately."
Selena Es Mi "Amor Prohibido" Para Siempre!

"This album was critiziezed for being unbalenced, with different styles of music mixed into one album. I disagree, Selena was very good in many different types of music. Amor Prohibido is the best album Selena ever released in life, a chance that we had to see what we would lose a year later. I liked the title track of course. But "Fots Y Recuerdos" was an incredible number. Followed By her hit "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom" and "Techno Cumbia" witch are now songs known by every latin music listener. Then Came "No Me Queda Mas" a remix from the 1993 hit, which was written by Ricky Vela to Selena's sister Suzette, because he was in love with her. This Mariachi ballad was incredible. "Ya No" was an exellent Rock-Style ending to what would be Selena's final album. We will never forget you, "Queen Of Tejano""
On the road to superstardom

"This album encompassed Selena on her way to what would have been THE pop-crossover of the 1990s. Selena demonstrated true drive, ambition and passion in everything she did, from her record-breaking live performances to her must-have albums, like Amor Prohibido.
This album is a cohesive, complete set of ten Latin-based tracks, that showcase her wonderful, learned voice and the emerging Tejano-techno-pop sound that she and her band were pioneers of in the late 80s/early 90s. From the irresistible Spanish pop of "Amor Prohibido" and "Bidi Bom Bom" to the the sound of her sweet voice over the traditional accordion and guitar arrangements of "Tus Desprecios" and brass-line in "Si Una Vez," Selena proves that her voice surpasses, with elegant grace, even some of the great-English-language pop stars of her time. Every song on this compilation is pure perfection -- whether it's the get-up-and-dance neo-Tejano beat of "Techno Cumbia" or the classic soul of "No Me Queda Mas" -- and Selena's melodic, soothing voice puts the finishing touch on each song (with remarkable pitch and range.) This CD belongs in the music collections of Tejano and pop fans alike."
The CD that introduced me to Selena...

"Due to their bouncy beats, the songs that stood out the most to me when I first purchased this CD was the humorous track "El Chico Del Apartamento 512," and "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom." Now, my favorite tracks are by far "Amor Prohibido" and the pop/rock influenced "Ya No." Amor Prohibido holds a special place in my heart, because it was the first Selena CD I ever bought, plus it was the first Latin CD I ever bought, introducing me to a different music style, which I love. This CD will always be important to me."
