Con Tanto Amor Medley: Amor Prohibido/Si Una Vez/Como la For
By now, Selena's recordings are like familiar friends, dropping in once a year or so to show off a new outfit that feels familiar, only it's prettied up in some new way. Ones offers 19 of the late Tejano diva's biggest hit... more »s, including the bittersweet crossover ballads "I Could Fall in Love" and "Dreaming of You." Every song sparkles with Selena's irresistible personality and rich, full-throttle delivery, especially impressive considering she was in her late teens and early 20s when most of these songs were recorded. The new addition here is "Con Tanto Amor," a three-song medley of "Amor Prohibido," "Si Una Vez," and "Como La Flor," that achieves added poignancy as a ballad. Ones also comes packaged with a DVD featuring Selena's complete video collection, from the shoestring-budget "La Carcacha" to the elegant "No Me Queda Mas." --Joey Guerra« less

CD Reviews
Selena's key cuts remastered...and a DVD bonus!

"Selena's most popular tracks get yet another recycling, but in this case EMI LATIN has created the ultimate single-disc overview: all first-rate tracks with no filler! CD-buyers who already have this material may be swayed to purchase this anthology by three factors. First there is the upgraded sound quality ala the recent remastering of many of Selena's recordings. Secondly, there is a very attractive ballad medley CON TANTO AMOR, which combines AMOR PROHIBIDO, SI UNA VEZ, and COMO LA FLOR (all three songs are also heard in their original hit versions here). Lastly is the bonus second disc, a DVD containing thirteen of Selena's videoclips (their first DVD release). It's the ALL MY HITS/TODOS MIS EXITOS set previously issued on VHS, but presented in chronological order and with decent if not exceptional Dolby Digital sound. The videos are variable in quality. However, as an added attraction to this already-recommended collection of Selena's hits, the buyer really gets more than their money's worth. By the way, if you're curious about Selena but have never bought one of her CDs, begin here!"
Selena lives on with ONES!!

"This is by far the best Selena collection that has been released to date. It includes all of Selena's hits including Como La Flor, Amor Prohibido, I Could Fall In Love, and Dreaming Of You. There is also a new medley featuring the songs Amor Prohibido/Si Una Vez/Como La Flor that is awesome, the songs have been mixed into a slower pop ballad. This edition of ONES also includes a DVD that features Selena's videos. Overall I would highly recommend buying this set it is worth having in your music collection."

"This is the only Selena compilation that should have been released besides "Anthology" since it includes on CD her biggest hits, new balad medley,(which sounds as if she had recorded it as a balad herself), and on DVD her videos and a documentary ! Welcome new Selena fans and thank you for your touching comments and welcome to REAL spanish music"
A glimpse of what was and could have been

"Reading some of the other reviews that are not very glowing I would like to give a review from a wider look. The Ones cd/dvd is a great treasure to those, probably much like myself that came to know of Selena more after her death then before her death. I will not complain about the reissues of Selena's albums by EMI because again for someone like myself the reissues add something extra that we missed out on because of our late introduction to Selena...one that doesn't allow us to ever hear her live or see her in person. I will focus on the Ones cd, this is Selena at her best showing vocally how talented she was. From the upbeat tempo of No Quiero Saber right into Baila Esta Cumbia you can't help but tap your toes and begin to enjoy this music called Tejano. And with beautiful ballads like Como La Flor to Buenos Amigos to my all time favorite No Me Queda Mas you hear that famous tear drop in her voice that was talked about. Such feeling, such vibrancy, and fun can be heard through this whole album. Upbeat songs, to ballads, to modern, to traditional it is all here. One of the truest gems is the medley EMI produced by putting together Amore Prohibido, Si Una Vez, and Como La flor. They weaving these three songs together into a beautiful ballad like medley with new backing tracks. This wonderful song is called Con Tanto Amor. Just listening to this one song makes you feel like Selena is still alive. They did a great job with it. And if this is a glimpse of what EMI's going to do on a proposed duets album. Then I say bring it on. Because this song and anything like this would introduce Selena to new generations. The DVD, yes quality is not bad. But look at when the video's were created... in a time when DVD was just a thought. But the video's on DVD are a great addition and I'm thankful now to have them because they showed me more of Selena. Again, I never got to see her in person or even hear her before her death. So I thank Mr. Q and EMI for this. The whole package is worth the money. Now if Mr. Q or EMI are reading this, please, please, please for all of us, please release the Last Concert DVD very soon. Allow us to share in the talent that Selena possessed."
Selena Ones - The best of the compilation CDs....

"This collection already is a top seller in the U.S and it is obvious why. This 2 Disc CD/DVD combo is THE best of the Selena compilations and if you do not have any Selena CDs this is the best place to start because all of her best songs are on here in chronological order. And finally "Buenos Amigos" and the original Spanish "Donde Quiera Que Estes" are included on a Selena disc (they are also on the Limited Editions of "Entre A Mi Mundo" and "Amor Prohibido, respectively)I am disappointed that this is the 3rd really big compilation album of Selena, and still "Ven Conmigo" has not been on any of them. Instead, No Quiero Saber has been included on all of them repeatedly. Granted, that song is great but give it a slight rest and include another #1 hit that has been neglected.Track # 20 "Con Tanto Amor" is really terrific. Amor Prohibido, Si Una Vez and Como La Flor sound awesome as ballads. Selena's label should really consider mixing more songs and make a "Selena The Remixes" CD, becuase I think that is as close as fans are going to get to getting something new of Selena. The DVD varies in quality as previously stated, the older videos are not as good looking as the newer ones. But the Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound is incredible to listen to. The DVD also includes a small photo gallery, and a 20 Years Of Music Collection Promo spot. The fact that this is Selena's 3rd or 4th hits release, and STILL becomes a best seller (It's the Hot Shot Debut Album as of 10/15) is testament to the fact that people still have a connection and respect for Selena's work that has not gone away in the 8 years since her passing. The messages of her songs are real, fun when appropriate, and timeless so time will not make them go away. This continuing support for her music from the people is really astonishing. Also equally astonishing is that she continues to outsell virtually all still living Tejano artists who produce new material with her compilation albums by a considerably large margin. This proves that Selena had the highest cross over potential to other musical markets that most other Tejano singers could only dream of.Being a fan since before her untimely death, this collection brought back a lot of nostalgic memories of when the songs first came out. Selena was definatley a good representative of all types of Latin music, not just Tejano. The impressive range of genres on this collection solidifies this fact."
