CD ReviewsFinally ! ! ! Eddie Landsberg | Tokyo, Japan | 08/30/2001 (5 out of 5 stars) "Up until recently, one of the only ways of finding this Cd was hunting down Seleno at one of his live performances ... and if you were lucky to squeeze past the crowds who pack in to see him at such hip NYC spots as Showman's (Harlem), Smoke Bar and Zinc, you might very well have been lucky to get a copy before they were all gone.
Seleno Clarke is an organist very much in the tradition of Jack McDuff and Charles Earland (in fact prior to switching over to the organ, he played horn behind most of the legends of that era, and you never know who will pop by to sit in with him.) He's known all over the world as a festival fave, and despite less than abundant airplay a champion upsetter wherever he plays. - - Recorded in George Benson's studio, The CD starts out with a few tunes meant for radio crossover but bumpin' nonetheless, then Seleno sits down at the organ and smokes. - - As is the highlight of all his performances Everyday I Have The Blues, Cookin' At The Continental and BJ Blues steal the show, however, this CD is happening throughout. - - Though nothing compares to seeing his funky, tight and groovin' quintet live, I highly reccomend getting your hand on this CD for starters... as Brother Jack would say, its a Real Good'un." |
