"The name of JOSE SEREBRIER has been familiar to most music lovers and record buffs for his vivid, brilliant interpretaions as conductor, with such orchestras as the London Symphony, Royal Philharmonic, London Philharmonic, etc. But his own compositions have not been that familiar. Besides a few short works, mostly on the ASV label, there hasn't been a major release devoted entirely to his music. The new Reference Recordings CD is most welcome because it helps us to discover a major composer of international status, great originality and profound message. The PARTITA (Symphony No. 2)is a brilliant master- piece. The FANTASIA for strings is a highly charged, new-romantic utterance, truly touching. The SOLO VIOLIN SONATA (written, incredibly,at age 9!)is idiomatic, vulnerable, exquisite. And the best of the lot is the final rousing work, the six-minute WINTERREISE, written a few months ago especially for this recording. Hopefully, you have very thick walls, well sound-proofed. This music will make you jump off your chair! The recorded sound is unbelievable. RR has done it once again. The London Philharmonic seems to be having the time of their lives. M.F."
