"There are all kinds of style blends that can be called "latin jazz". I tend to prefer the ones that are informed by clave styles, and incorporate traditional latin rhythms, but, in true "jazz" tradition, maintain a certain flexibility in the rhythm section - along with jazz-based improvisations. Mark Levine fits this to a "tee"! He's a wonderful pianist, as well as arranger, and has a nice augmented trio to round out the session. To my ears, this CD succeeds all around, and has given me many enjoyable listenings."
