Contemplation or Evocation?

"It took me years to respect Liszt and even longer to love him. This process could have been hastened had I heard Sergio Fiorentino's performances sooner. They are, in their way, in the same category as Edwin Fischer's performance of Bach's Well Tempered Clavier, Solomon's of Beethoven's Les Adieux, Anne Fischer's performance of Schubert's last sonata, and a handful of other referential moments that have fortunately been captured on tape. As in these examples above, Fiorentino's approach is completely respectful of the composer's intention and, at the same time, completely personal in terms of expression. Real magic takes place that words can barely describe. Liszt comes through as a visionary, a fascinating and sympathetic figure (who might have benefitted from Prozac but fortunately found some relief in music)."
