Synopsis

Product Description
Watercolor Day is the new solo release from hit singer-songwriter Seth Swirsky, the main writing force behind The Red Button, whose debut album, She's About to Cross My Mind, was a commercial and critical success. The Beatles original recording engineer, Norman 'Hurricane' Smith said: ''If The Red Button was around in the '60s, I would have signed them to EMI!'' Seth's second solo album is chock full of pop delicacies evoking the era when groups and artists like 10cc, ELO, and The Beach Boys ruled pop radio. Before becoming an artist in his own right, Seth was a staff songwriter for EMI and wrote a number of worldwide hits for a wide range of artists as his 32 Gold and Platinum records attest. Recognized for his classic pop melody writing, Watercolor Day is right on time for Summer.

CD Reviews

Masterful pop

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Warm and engaging from the opening acoustic guitar chords to the final fadeout of the hidden bonus song, Seth Swirsky's "Watercolor Day" proudly wears its influences on its sleeve: namely, the romantic and melodic pop music of Paul McCartney, Brian Wilson and Harry Nilsson. Using his numerous musical abilities (singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, arranger and co-producer), Seth creates a blissful and lilting mood without a trace of negativity, while yearning for the joys of summer and reflecting on the simple pleasures of life. The gentle beauty of "Watercolor Day" will appeal to people of all ages, not just to those who grew up with the Beatles and the Beach Boys.

Out of all his many individual achievements on "Watercolor Day," including the overall conception of the album itself, Seth deserves special praise for the arrangements, which often feature lush vocal harmonies and detailed orchestrations that give the music a meaningful part of its character. In addition, he has assembled a talented team around him. The performances by his cast of musicians are flawless, the recording is immaculate, and the production is keenly focused yet subtle. The mastering is also finely done, allowing the music to breathe, without excessive volume. In keeping with the music, the vivid colors of the CD artwork are gorgeous too.

Watercolor Day - Music at its Finest

"Watercolor Day - Music at its Finest

If you enjoy music that's cheerful, peaceful, and jubilant, then Seth Swirsky's "Watercolor Day" is for you. You'll be humming future classics "Summer in Her Hair", "Fading Away" and "Matchbook Cover" after just one listen. The harmonies of the "She's Doing Fine" and "4 O'clock Sun" are pure pop brilliance.

The lyrics are first rate. "Distracted" immaculately describes the everyday distractions we all experience. "(I Never Knew You) Harry" is a fabulous tribute to the underappreciated musical icon Harry Nilsson. "Stay" is a magnificent love song everyone can relate to.

A perfect combination of great melodies and sensitive lyrics make this album enjoyable to anyone that appreciates pop/rock music at its finest.
