"Just because lead singer Lajon Witherspoon is black, don't dismiss him as a rapper with a heavy metal band at his arsenal, because that is definately NOT what Sevendust is. Sevendust is straight-up heavy metal. No but's about it. They are easily the heaviest band out there, and every person in the band has an awesome talent at their instrument. Guitarists John Connoly and Clint Lowery are 1-2 punch guitarists, almost as good as James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett. Bassist Vince Hornsby holds his own punping awesome bass lines, and Morgan Rose punds the skins like no one else. Everyone in the band has a singing part also. But the band's secret weapon is singer Lajon. His voice is so great that it's haunting. He can both sing and scream with the best of them. A run-down of all the tracks on a scale on 1 to 5.... 1. Home-Nice opener, heavy intro, cool vocals by Rose (4/5) 2. Denial-The 1st single, bone crunching riffs and great screaming by Lajon (5/5) 3. Headtrip-Very cool song, love the chorus, also love when Lajon screams "NEVER FORGET THE PAIN! " (4.5/5) 4. Insecure-Sort of a prelude to Reconnect, not great, another good song could be filled in here (2/5) 5. Reconnect-Excellent, very nice chorus, great songwriting on this track (4.5/5) 6. Waffle-The 2nd single, one of the heaviest tracks here, starts slow, gets ROCK HARD (4.5/5) 7. Rumble Fish-Another LOUD track, most of it is screaming, but it's awesome (4.5/5) 8. Licking Cream-The highlight of the album, ITS AWESOME! Skin from Skunk Anansie guest stars on this track, and her voice combined with Lajon's is beautiful (5/5) 9. Grasp-More melodic, I don't care for it (2/5) 10. Crumbled-The heaviest track on "Home", very cool chorus where Connoly sings also (his voice is really cool) (4.5/5) 11. Grasshopper-A track where bassist Hornsby messes around and sings some stupid acoustic song. Entertaining though (3.5/5) 12. Bender-Deftones vocalist Chino Moreno guests on this track, and his voice only contributes. Its a very haunting track (4/5) Overall, if you like Staind, Machine Head, Metallica, or any metal band, you should DEFINATELY check this out."

"It's sad so few people see this album as the gem it is... In my opinion, tied with Animosity as Sevendust's best... why? First off, the guitar work by Clint and John is flat-out amazing. There is so much melody and harmonizing to be found, but it seems most can't look past the shear aggression to find it! Morgan's drumming? I think he really shined on this album... the complexity and precision is shocking. Then of course, there's Lajon's deep, passionate singing... angry? you bet! But still done with talent, not mindless screaming.



I just can't believe the reviews this album seems to get! I bought this CD on release day... and still listen to it! How many years is that? There's just something here, hidden... It's like the entire band had E.S.P. when making this one... They're so tight and together, each song is like an extension of the last.. I'll admit, I really don't like the first song "Home" at all... but every other song? I know like the back of my hand! I'm not saying to buy this album for 17 bucks... haha.. I'm not saying to even buy the album at all.. Just give some of the songs a chance... they'll definitely grow on you. You might be surprised... there's something really good here.."

Explosive tracks make up for weaker ones; AWESOME ALBUM!

"I actually won this CD from my friend's music 'zine fundraiser draw. (The booklet is signed by the band members.) I had heard of them a bit prior to winning this album, I liked what I had heard on the radio so far (I vaguely remembered Waffle at the time) and I bought a ticket for this album for the hell of supporting my friend's fundraiser.Goddamn, am I GLAD I won it! I'm now a lip-synching bedroom-thrashing Sevendust fanatic, all thanks to this album. Soon after Animosity came out, I bought that, and then their self-titled release awhile later.I really don't understand why this album "failed to be a commercial success", but I don't care... I love it. It's different metal than anything else out there, and in my opinion, that makes it all the better. This album is wonderfully hard and melodic at once; lajon's voice is awesome, morgan's drumming is so unique and complicated and smooth all at once (listen to them during "I'm home, leave it to me/Leave it to me now that you've seen" - amazing); clint and john's guitars will take turns, complementing each other, then intermingle perfectly; vince's pulsing bass adds dark dimension.There are however a few weaker tracks that I skip, namely, Feel So and Grasp. And Grasshopper's not even a song (??). I can listen to it without skipping until Licking Cream ends (WICKED track, by the way, like everyone's said already), and then I skip over to Bender (also an awesome song).I really like Home, it's a good intro track - took a bit to grow on me, but now I can't live without hearing it first thing after I pop it in my stereo. Shows off their different sound.Denial is good but it doesn't seem to fit right after Home with its fade-in start... other than that, I really like it also.It gets better at Headtrip... love those first few lines: "Forever after/You killed my laughter/All I've done/Doesn't matter/SELF!". A lot of people have been whining about Insecure, but to me it's a great melodic intro to Reconnect, my favorite track on the album. I just wish they didn't make it a seperate song, it seems to be a filler track that way.Anyways, Reconnect - what can I say? I love everything about this song, the lyrics, Lajon's voice, especially the music - the main attraction. I think it's got a funk style to it, especially at the bridge.Waffle's good, with an explosive chorus and bridge that are rock-out-worthy.Rumble Fish is okay, a bit long for its own good and kind of repetitive, but the bridge ("Get up/get up/get up/get up/get up") makes it worthwhile... just the way Lajon whispers it to the music is perfectly infectuous.Licking Cream is definitely a masterpiece. You need to hear it for yourself in order to appreciate the sheer metal magnitude of this song... and all the while, it's completely harmonious.Don't really like Grasp all that much, or Feel So... i'll think i'll skip Grasshopper. Crumbled is listenable.Bender is a great song, other than Chino's voice I can pick out other Deftones musical influences. Sounds like a definite Sevendust-Deftones hybrid, and it's not bad.All in all, the many kickass songs on this album make for an AWESOME release. I still don't know why the media would thumbs-down Home but i guess they'll slander anything that's not totally generic. I know I enjoyed the most part of it. If you're into alternative metal and the like, you CAN'T miss this!"
