Synopsis
Album Description 2007 digitally remastered reissue of the debut album by the first white folk/country singer songwriter to be signed to Motown Records that was first released in 1973. Browne had come to Motown in 1970 to try and become a staff songwriter. When label founder Berry Gordy sat in on one of his sessions, he encouraged Browne to release his own album. Reluctantly, a year later, Browne signed up and took his time making this album. Like his brother Jackson, Severin's songs were inspired by his own life experience and have that "special something", a wonderful characteristic common in his family of musicians. |
CD ReviewsA Forgotten Gem of an Album Russell H. Paris | Oak Park, CA USA | 06/12/2000 (5 out of 5 stars) "Severin Browne's debut album on the Motown Label is a forgotten gem of the 70s singer-songwriter era. The album contains ten self-written songs dating from 1971 to 1973 and was reviewed quite favorably by critics around the world. Unfortunately, they also compared Severin, not surprisingly, to his more famous brother Jackson, which was unfair since their music isn't all that similar. Severin's way with lyrics and melodies has always been wonderful and although a touch dated, many of the songs on this album hold up quite well today. No real comparison to his outstanding 1995 CD From The Edge of the World, but a nice look back and some real hidden gems within." Good '70 music M. Ohmi | kobe, japan | 10/03/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "this one I owned LP long time.
Jackson's brother is very fine singer/songwriter. one of my favorite from the '70." |
