"My man Paul already covered this album quite well with his review, but I figured I'd share my 2 cents worth anyway. I bought the Sex Slaves' 2008 debut Bite Your Tongue without hearing the music first. What can I say; it has one of the greatest album covers in the history of rock. Actually, it was recommended to me by Amazon based on previous purchases (Dirty Penny, Last Vegas, etc.), but come on, that cover...
Wait, where was I? Oh yeah, the music. This isn't really a throwback or nostalgia album, but it's obvious these guys loved the 80's party rock and punk scenes. Actually, if members of the Ramones, Rancid, Guns n' Roses and L.A. Guns got roaring drunk in a bar owned by Lemmy and grabbed whatever instruments were at hand, it would probably sound a lot like Bite Your Tongue. This is party rock in the best sense of the term. Album opener "We're Going Out Tonight" is a ridiculously catchy party anthem that would fit in just as well on a Rancid or Dropkick Murphys album as it would a Bang Tango release, and it totally sets the tone for the whole album. How can you not have a good time listening to rockin' songs like "All Night Long", "See You Naked" and of course "Thank God for Jack Daniels"? Throw in a cover of the Stooges classic "Search & Destroy" and this party is about ready to spill out into the streets.
Bite Your Tongue is just a great hard rocking, hard partying album that's a welcome break from what most mainstream rock radio stations play. If you're a fan of bands like Airbourne, Charm City Devils, Rockets to Ruin, you'll definitely want to add the Sex Slaves to your list of bands to look out for.
And hey, did I mention that cover?"
