It's a "Black Sky" Without HORMONALLY YOURS (VHS).

"As Shakespears Sister's biggest fan (in the US, anyway), I delight in telling you that this dynamic duo was unique and exciting in every way. In spite of the fact that their Stateside success began and ended with the No.4 single "Stay," they released this beautiful video collection in January 1993 that compiles music videos from their eponymous album of the same name. Like their album, HORMONALLY YOURS (VHS) begins with the fabulous, decadent "Goodbye Cruel World" and ends with the melancholy, heart-wrenching "Hello (Turn Your Radio On)." My favourite Shakespears Sister song, "Goodbye Cruel World" is a high-gloss, high-camp scream. Nobody did it better than former Bananarama member Siobhan Fahey and Marcella Detroit, and their love for Hollywood style and high-fashion hilarity shows in this video, which is "Sunset Boulevard" meets "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" Siobhan is screamingly funny, while Marcy looks oh-so-cool vamping it up."Stay" is fondly remembered for its otherworldy imagery and uncoventional storytelling. Surreal, intoxicating, breathtaking...this video is the most riveting four minutes of footage you'll ever see. Siobhan is an evil figure of mythology (supposedly Hecate) who comes to take the life of Marcy's dying beau. Siobhan relishes the chance to drain the life from him, but Marcy won't part with her man, and, ultimately, love conquers all. Siobhan walks away in mock disgust, because, after all...she'll be back."I Don't Care" is inviting, invigorating, and totally unexpected. (In other words, it's oh-so Shakespears Sister). Marcy and Siobhan each dream the other is trying to eclipse her from the band, and the results are laugh-out-loud funny. The humour is wicked and twisted. In other words, it's oh-so Shakespears Sister."Catwoman" is a rare glimpse into the live stage antics of Siobhan Fahey. She's possessed on stage and the reaction is wild. Of course, later it was revealed that she struggled with a heroin addiction during the tour, but the effect is no less startling. This broad knows how to put on a show.Last and best is "Hello (Turn Your Radio On)," the most achingly beautiful song of the '90s. Siobhan and Marcy are aging spinsters who toil on rocking chairs. Presumably, they are immortal. Siobhan is ghastly white, and Marcy is somewhat sinister. While Marcy is usually less aggressive than Siobhan, on stage and off, the role reversal is clearly evident here. Siobhan is a tortured soul who has suffered for her sins, while Marcy regrets nothing and suffers accordingly. The video is heartfelt, sincere and moving. In other words, it's oh-so Shakespears Sister."

"This is a fantastic work. The lyrics are original, witty, and somewhat on the dark side. Siobhan Fahey has really come to the fore as what I would rate one of the better songwriters that I know of. Add to this some excellent tunes, good production, and of course great vocals, and you have a winner. I recall that only "Stay" and "Hello" made it big in this part of the world, but I was really pleasantly surprised by the strength of the other tracks. Go and get it!If you are new to this band, then this is definitely a place to start. Otherwise, do check out "Sacred Heart", a slightly less serious album, but still with a number of great tracks. This female band should appeal to lovers of "adult-aimed" pop."
