CD Reviews

This is a Great CD!
Mitch Barnett | Cayucos, California USA | 11/22/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Seasongs and Nightbirds is a CD that makes you feel good every time you play

it. Shane Stonemans voice is soothing, mysterious and heartfelt . The opening

track "Carefree Dreams" is aptly titled, letting the listener float away with

the opening line "I sit on this island with a pot of gold."

The music and imagery on this record are wonderful. Shane Stoneman has

developed a style of writing that is unique in that the words and music seem to

be held back to the point of barely moving yet the listener still feels the

groove of Bass, drums, guitar and tastefully done harmonica. The tracks on

Seasongs and Nightbirds flow well together with songs that sound like a stream

of consciousness poetry-slam to simple story-telling lyrics about getting in the

truck heading out on the hunt for surf session.

Seasongs and Nightbirds has a great collection of musicians backing Shane up.

He has been playing with Ron and Alex Work from Santa Cruz over the past couple of years and

they complement the songs nicely with Alex's tasty drums and Rons smooth attack

on the guitar and Ron receives producing credits with Shane as well. Other

musicians include Central California favorites "Stitch" and uber-musician Dylan Johnson on

Bass, T. Mack on Drums and Craig Melia helps out on back-up vocals.

The sound quality of the CD is excellent. Recorded mostly at Painted Sky in

Cambria, Ca the tone from track to track is even and warm, something not always

heard on independent releases. So if you're looking for a CD you can play that

will put a smile on your face and fill your house, car and head with good

musical karma then include Seasongs and Nightbirds in your collection."
