Sharkey

"This CD collects all the sides Sharkey Bonano made for Decca and Vocalion, 1936-37, plus sides he made with Johnnie Miller and Monk Hazel in 1928; a Santo Pecora date, sans Bonano, from 1937 is thrown in for good measure. The music is wonderful; in fact, much of it is definitive. This is small group swing at its best. Bonano's trumpet playing clearly indicates an affinity to Louis Armstrong (his singing is another story, however). There is not a dud on the whole CD: 24 gems. A real good ol' good one."
