CD Reviews

Do You Wonder Is A Wonder!
kentam | Michigan, USA | 10/13/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"How Can a C.D. score 5 stars when only one side is worth listening to? When that side is probably the best side of music ever recorded! Starting with As All Is Played, Shawn spins a tapestry of alluring acoustic guitar mixed with his trademark incredible vocal range that almost puts you in a trance. The music is soft, intriguing, and incredibly entertaining. The title song did receive some air play when the album was released, and is the only song that can be found on greatest hits compilations, however, it is not the style or even remotely compares with the quality and genius of the second half of the album. This is a C.D. that makes you really appreciate the abilty to press a button a few times and skip the first few songs. Buy it, go to As All Is Played, press play and hear what heaven sounds like!"
An Anomaly...
Scott McClure | Cambridge, MA | 04/03/2003
(3 out of 5 stars)

"Do You Wonder? is one anomaly in the career of Shawn Phillips. The album has a much more accessible pop sound and, of all things, a dance beat. Shawn Phillips goes outside his normal style and explores music with a wide range of styles, none of which he excels at extraordinarily. While the album has some catchy songs, it is not one of the best works by Phillips. Try some of his earlier works to get a taste of Phillips, and leave this album for the heavy fans."
