Synopsis

Perhaps no female group marketed out of Nashville is as puzzling as Shedaisy, the Mormon siblings who named their trio after an American Indian word for "my sisters." Wrongfully compared to the banjo-and-fiddle-driven Dixie Chicks upon the release of their debut album, The Whole Shebang, in 1999, the Osborns emerge on this follow-up in all their full-blown poppiness, leaving not only the Chicks behind, but also such vaguely country performers as Faith Hill and Martina McBride. Far more beat-heavy and rhythm-based than the album that produced the hit "Little Good-Byes," Knock on the Sky showcases more of their impressively intricate harmony vocals and attitude ("Get Over Yourself"), the latter finding more in common with Britney Spears and her ilk than any Nashville counterparts. It says a lot that Richard Marx shares a writing credit with chief songsmith, Kristyn, on one of the album's most memorable and melodic tunes, "All Over You." But while much of the program gets the blood pumping, the majority of songs have the depth of a birdbath, and often sound constructed, not written, with a reliance on hokey sound effects such as a scanning radio dial and a not-too-credible tent-revival preacher. Granted, Shedaisy court the younger audience, but why should a teenager settle for mere grooves and harmony, no matter how skillfully it's layered? --Alanna Nash

The girls of SHeDAISY got it all right
Bryce Isaacson | Utah, USA | 06/27/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"With this cd, the girls of SHeDAISY have solidified themselves as their own genre. While certainly not a pop group, they can't quite be categorized as country either, as these girls have meshed pop, rock and country into something that is amazingly unique. With solid lyrics, and constant harmonizing between the three girls, the expertly played instruments are well accompanied.Although it seems that a few songs follow the same formula (which is in no way a bad one, mind you), this cd keeps the freshness and surprises coming. "I'm Lit" grasps the `girl on the edge' theme both musically and lyrically for a surprising second track. "Get Over Yourself" is one of my favorite SHe songs. This absolutely awesome in-your-face song has tons of energy, complete with a tight guitar solo as well.
Normally, I don't like slow songs. But even after the energetic "Get Over Yourself" I was blown away by the beauty of "Rush." This is one of the most heartfelt songs I've ever heard, which is best enjoyed when the lyrics are read while listening.
But my absolute fave track is "Turn Me On". The energy in this track is unbelievable. The bass guitar part totally floors me when I listen to this song, and the lyrics are absolutely hilarious.I HIGHLY recommend "Knocking on the Sky." With funny are heartfelt lyrics, great vocals with constant harmonizing, along with plenty of great instrumental moments, it clearly sets SheDAISY apart from the rest."
Sensational!

"On SHeDaisy's second album, the three sisters, Kristyn, Kassidy and Kelsi Osborn, belt out sassy tunes and deep, heartfelt lyrics. The lead singer, Kristyn, wrote the songs "Keep Me" and "The First To Let Go" and co-wrote all of the other songs. So, obviously, these are some very talented ladies!I love the beautiful tranquillity of "Rush." It's the best on the album. I also really enjoy the bold song "Get Over Yourself." It's very fun and cheeky! Other outstanding songs on the CD are "Mine All Mine," "I Wish I Were the Rain," "All Over You" and "I'm Lit."Overall, "Knock On the Sky" is an excellent sophomore release from SHeDaisy. I recommend this album very highly. It's amazing!"
