Synopsis

Sherrié Austin's 1998 debut is a charming and inspired beginner's effort that deserved at least a little more attention than it got. On songs like "Innocent Man," "You Keep on Lovin' Me," and the bluesy, double-entendre-laden "Put Your Heart into It" (a centerpiece of Austin's live shows), Austin--who wrote or cowrote many of the songs--strikes convincing musical and romantic poses that are somewhere between sophisticated adolescence and womanly earnestness. Austin's powerful, trilling, little-girlish voice and sweet Aussie enunciation are occasionally demeaned by the generic country-rock arrangements, yet Words proves that sometimes that first time around can also be the charm. --Bob Allen

CD Reviews

Words is a little country, a lot of great music

"Sherrie Austin is an artist neglected of airplay by country radio. Songs that should be #1 hits have been simply buried in the heap of CDs between other artists who have made it to the limelight with mediocre music and an excess of record label support. On this album are gems that the public should have heard more of, and never did, singles like "Lucky in Love" and "Put Your Heart Into It." My personal favorite, however, was never even released onto country radio, probably since it leans more toward alternative music, and that song is called "Tenderly." Sherrie can sing it all, and she penned 7 of the 10 cuts for the album. "Words" is an excellent title for this very lyric and well-written masterpiece."
It's ALL good!

"Sherrie Austin's "Words" is one of those rare collections that can be listened to from beginning to end without ever wanting to stop and skip over the "filler." There is no filler! These songs are fabulous, and Sherrie SHOULD be the next Shania, Faith, Martina, etc. Sherrie deserves a lot more recognition than she's gotten. She's great, and "Words"? Well, it's ALL good!"
SHERRIE AUSTIN IS AWESOME!!!

"This album is different from other country albums. The songs are all great! Sherrie Austin has a voice that stands out and is very different from other female singers. Her songs are written in a very different style. "Lucky In Love", "Words" and "Innocent Man" are different from any other country song I've ever heard. She deserves more credit then she gets! Even my husband is crazy about her voice and music! She got a style of her own in her music and I think she is far more talented then Shania Twain!!"
