"I specifically shelled out $23 to get all the "extras" touted on the Shinedown website... what a load of crap!
The $13 extra dollars bought me three additional tracks on the CD, a poster and some stickers (oh... wheee!!!). The website is pathetic. It's the only place you can get new pix of the band (or even old ones), and yet all you get is a couple of wallpapers, mostly of the album cover...yawn!!! and one lousy pic of the band from the "Save Me" video. Apparently no one had a camera anywhere near these guys during the past year? Riiiiight....
Recap: $13 extra dollars buys you 3 songs and some useless crap. Buy the regular version and save yourself some $$$."
Just awesome!!!!!

"When the introduction track, "The Dream," gives way to "Heroes," this album is an instant classic for me. "Us And Them" is a perfect example of how a band should do their second album. Just as strong as before, but bigger and broader, which is exactly what Shinedown accomplish.
From Jacksonville, Florida, comes Shinedown with "Us And Them," their second release, following up the sleeper-hit "Leave A Whisper." If you haven't already caught wind of Shinedown, courtesy of hits like "45" and "Fly From The Inside," you can be sure you will hear from them soon. They take a popular sound, that of mainstream hard-rock/grunge and take it to the next level. Brent Smith's strong vocals are a huge part of the band's sound, which is heavily influenced by southern rock. Shinedown offer something for those interested in heavy music, and for those who like to chill a bit. Basically, you can't go wrong with these guys.
Not only is the production on "Us And Them" an improvement over "Leave A Whisper," but the songs themselves are much stronger and the band settles on a style that they can call their own (before they sounded kinda like a fusion of Staind and Fuel). The aformentioned "Heroes" is one of the best songs on the album and the absolute perfect opener, while there are plenty of instant hits scattered about, such as "Save Me" and "I Dare You" (which are already singles) as well as "Trade Yourself In" and the perfect album closer "Some Day."
"Us And Them" is an easy hit for Shinedown. Personally, I felt that "Leave A Whisper" opened and closed strongly, but sagged way too much in the middle. Here, Shinedown do not make any mistakes. All the songs are listenable, and are distinctive from one another. Something few bands can accomplish. If you loved the first album, prepare to be overwhelmed here, because these guys have no problem outdoing themselves. If you're down for some good, honest hard rock, you can do no wrong with this album."
EXCELLENT - LIVE & ON CD

"I just saw these guys 2 nights ago in NJ. I saw them during their first tour and now recently with Seether. And these boys can play the songs off their albums and make them sound better. From their live show obviously nothing was artificially enhanced in the studio - the vox, and all the instruments sounded fantastic live. In the world of R&R I believe you better be able to bring the goods when you play out and these boys do that in spades. This CD is excellent. It can totally be listened to straight through on a long drive which I think is the true complete test of a band's album. Not a filler song in sight. Of course I like some more than others but none get on my nerves that force me to skip over it. These guys remind me of bands such as Alice In Chains and Soundgarden. Not so much because of their style of music but their seriousness about it. The lyrics and instrumentation are pretty intense, dark side of life stuff, fighting for a way out / to overcome. I think its awesome and I'm happy to have a band like this around in these days of disposable 80s new wave rehash bands and emo/pop-punk annoyances. Big Thumbs up for SHINEDOWN..."
Shinedown has all the potential to become the next big rock

"The Good
A killer guitar riff courtesy of Jasin Todd kicks off the music portion of the disc on "Heroes." Brent Smith gives one hell of a vocal performance as he recalls his fallen idols and how they live on in his memory. "Save Me" has been tearing up rock radio as of late, and it's no wonder; the simple guitar lick is just enough to tear through you, and the passionate chorus about drug addiction resonates for days. Drummer Barry Kerch sets a frantic pace on "Yer Majesty." The track barrels along like a loaded freight train with the help of Todd's driving riffs.
It's no surprise that when Shinedown break out their acoustic equipment they're at the top of their game. "Beyond the Sun" mixes both acoustics with electrics to create an emotionally charged power ballad. Another powerful acoustic ballad is "Begin Again.". This one is totally unplugged and really highlights Smith's throaty pipes. The steady guitar lick that dominates "Fake" would make any classic southern rock band proud.
The Bad
"Lady So Devine" tends to run on a bit too long.
The Verdict
If properly promoted (a rarity these days), Shinedown has all the potential to become the next big rock band. Us and Them follows the same path as their debut album Leave a Whisper, but at the same time shows the band's progression and improvement. Shinedown has a great rock sound, and a great rock voice. If I had received this release before the end of 2005, it would have defiantly made the top of my list for albums of the year."
