CD ReviewsA decent overview, but I'd have done it differently William J. Eichelberger | Ft. Thomas, KY | 06/23/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "My biggest gripe with this greatest hits package is that the person who picked the songs did not seem to be familiar with the band's better material over their five album lifespan. This happens a lot with greatest hits packages. Most of the songs are no-brainers. Last Chance is one of the greatest FM rock songs ever and Tonight, Breakout, Straight Ahead and Flesh and Blood are all what I would consider hugely underrated. My problem is with the inclusion of You've Got What I Need and Train Rolls On. Both are decent songs, but I'd have included Are You Ready, Do You Feel Alright or Summer Sun (which probably would have made it had it not been on something other than the band's original label.) The previously unreleased songs are always nice to find on compilations such as these and Christmas Together fits the bill here. Not a song that fits your mood year round, but after hearing Do They Know It's Christmas ad nauseum every holiday season, Christmas Together is at least something fresh. As for the other previously unreleased song, I read somewhere that Touch Me Tonight is the bands highest charting song ever. This speaks volumes about the lack of respect Shooting Star got in what should have been their heyday. Again, a decent song, but nothing special. If you are an old fan of the band like I am, you may be better served by buying the five cd's and making your own compilation, but if you're new to Shooting Star, this would be a good place to start." GREAT collection from a less recognized band Owen M. Wilson | Atlanta, GA USA | 12/12/2006 (4 out of 5 stars) "I don't like lengthy reviews so straight to the meat. These guys were (are?) good - why weren't they more popular??
If you like Kansas, Thin Lizzy, Starz, Triumph, and the like, then give this a listen. Stand out cuts are Tonight, Flesh and Blood, Hollywood, and Touch Me Tonight. Heck, the Christmas Song is even pretty catchy! Check it out! Especially if you're looking for some misic that isn't made anymore. This will take you back to the good old days.... " |
