"For music lovers who prefer to discover some of the rarities of the repertoire for celebrating the Christmas season look no further than this extraordinary recording, Simphonies des noëls ~ A Treasures of Baroque Christmas Concerti as performed by Bernard Labadie's own ensemble, Les Violons du Roy. The works by Corelli, Torelli, Sammartini, Delalande, and Charpentier are performed with a combination of the sophistication of knowledge of the Baroque period and an appreciation for the rich sonorities of contemporary tastes Labadie understands so well. Once again this year Bernard Labadie brought his Les Violons du Roy and his hand selected chorus La Chapelle de Quebec for performances of Handel's 'Messiah' in the Disney Hall in Los Angeles with soloists Rosemary Joshua, soprano, David Daniels, countertenor, Alan Bennett, tenor, and Joshua Hopkins, bass-baritone in what must be the perfect version of this wondrous work. We can only hope that Labadie will record his immaculately elegant and delicately informed interpretation so that more people will be able to hear Handel's masterpiece as few other conductors and ensembles can match! Until that time this rare recording of the Simphonies des noëls is much more than a passing fancy. Grady Harp, December 09"
