"I have been the BIGGEST Sister Sledge fan since I was 7 yrs. old. I have all 10 of their albums, including the import album and pre-We Are Family albums. They were the Queens. I went to the music store to purchase something else and was elated to find a new Sister Sledge album on display. I immediately bought it. At first I wasn't too thrilled with the music because it was a total switch from the material I was accustomed to, and I was still lamenting over the departure of babysis Kathy (who also had a wonderful solo album). As time went on I learned to appreciate it and embrace it as I did their previous albums. Though not mainstream, the songs are beautiful and the musicianship is tight. It's always good to hear Debbie, Joni, and Kim sing together. They made an appearance on Rosie that caught me by suprise because Kim was there (she had left the group for a while as well and was replaced by non-related Linda Howard). There are only two things wrong with this CD: The absence of Kathy and no lead songs by Debbie, who was always my favorite. Her rich, smooth and effortless alto have caressed many a sultry ballad. In spite of that, The Sisters have come up with a few treats. All of you who are still humming Family and Greatest Dancer and All American Girls, etc. can lay those down for a moment and appreciate the new family on the block. They still have what it takes to compete with the vocal groups out today and surpass them when it comes to sheer artistry. Never show-offy, never contrived, The Sisters are Here To Stay!"

A stunning return for these underated sisters

"It had been a while since Sister Sledge had released anything, atleast in the states, but this new release "African Eyes" is well worth the wait. Sisters Debbie, Joni and Kim Sledge return with a more mature sound that covers every base from jazz to house to pop. From the opening number, the very inspiring "Walking In The Light" (produced by the jazz fusion group Incognito) to the very sweet closing number "Cry for Soweto" the sisters take you on a trip that should be traveled over and over again. Many of the songs were inspired by a trip that the sisters took to South Africa such as the title track, "The Thank You Song" and "Cry For Soweto", but they have not lost their ability to make you dance as you will find out by listening to the housey "World, Rise & Shine" and the funky "Let It Out". With the jazzy "Unraveling" and the poppy "You Are The One" and a few noteworthy ballads, "African Eyes" is a must have. The only thing missing from this recording is the soulful rhaspy voice of baby sister Kathy Sledge, but sisters Debbie, Joni and Kim have proven that one monkey don't stop no show."

"I have been a sister sledge fan... since i was a kid.This is a very mature sound from them.Great vocal's ....and a jazzy feel to it.I think it is one of their best.One thing is missing....Kathy is no longer with the group.But Joni,debbie,and kim...have made a excellent C.D."
